Bugs, slugs and snails everywhere. We saw two slugs working their way down the side of a tree. How did it get up there? How many slugs were there to make such a wide wet trail? Fun in the rain. Secret chats and mud pies. So, the topic of dinosaurs has come up. I have very little knowledge of dinosaurs. S has a tonne of knowledge, he wants to be a paleontologist. I asked S to do circle time for me. He showed the toy dino and told us multiple facts and answered the other childrens questions.
We saw a water snake but couldn't get a photo of it. It was a Queen snake. We did find it's shedded skin. We threw stone into the lake, listened to birds and pretend fishing.
Can we see Toronto from here? Yes we can. We went to the lookout near Hydro hill. We played at the camp and gazed at Toronto. We found some orange/yellow slugs and a green caterpillar. On the way to camp we saw a garter snake. It moved to quickly to get a photo. We did see 3 more later. The children were using my field guides to labe the bugs, birds and trees. At camp there are 2 forts, one is perfect for climbing and jumping off. It was a great day. https://youtube.com/channel/UC8JGy4bF16Hm1wPrZeK00JQ Written by S Robitaille. We were looking for a log to use as a sofa for the new fort. We found one that was too long so we had to cut it. Once it was ready I asked for some helpers to lift it. That's when we noticed all the creatures living on it. Snails, slugs and potato bugs.

There was some whittlers and sawing some logs. Next came fishing. J had the idea to make a fishing pole with bait/fish tied on, then everyone followed. L finished the final touches on the geoboard. Even Aira tried the saw. Also the bridge they made last time was still standing. It must have been built well because the storm didn't damage it at all.
Written by S Robitaille. At camp the children were finally using the geoboard they made. It is a slice of wood which the children added nails. We used neon coloured elastics to create shapes. They were so excited the wood began to rock and move. Out came a very quick and frightened salamander. It tried to find cover but Susanne needed a photo and kept moving the hiding places. We let it go. Written by S Robitaille.
Today we went to the pond inlet. On the way we noticed the pub patio has a new fence. It is surounded by glass instead of wood. We also saw a bird dead beside the glass. How did it die? It probably crashed into the glass.
At the pond we saw fish, frogs and tadploes. EF also had a visitor, one of Mom's friends. This was unexpected and we discussed what to do in this situation. It was a good example for our stranger danger discussion later. There was a beautiful dedication at the base of a tree. I had to share. Written by S Robitaille. |
