The first week of summer is coming to the end. We were busy. We went on a sensory walk and found everything we needed, even black berries to taste.
We had our first splash day. It was great. We went to the labyrinth and walked barefoot on the grass. We returned to the centre and made our own out of loose parts. Today we watered the gardens and found some nature items to make a face. Some have long hair ,others short. We tried to only use items already picked or fallen from the trees.

We went on a big hike today. The rain was not too heavy. We saw a bunch of snails, slugs and worms. We also saw a snapping turtle laying her eggs.
We tried something new. We used the teather rope. It is like a tight rope. Everyone had 2 turns. Meanwhile T and H were putting their trap back together. They must have caught something but it got away. ND and B were over by the bridge. ND thinks he saw a brown animal in the distance. Maybe a coyote but it didn't look like a dog. I guess we will never know. The others were climing the tree and looking for butterflies. On our way to the camp we saw a dead robin. There are 3 theories how it died. 1 bit a tree and fell down dead. 2 chased by a hawk and died escaping. 3 the smoke i the air was too much for it's lungs. They said they will miss their friend the robin. We saw another robin and someone said it was looking for it's friend. Or missing it's friend. Empathy is a wonderful thing. This week we planted our gardens with vegetables. Everyone helped to water the next day. On thursday it was Oceans Day. We stopped by the lake since we don't have an ocean. We saw the water flowing in and out of the storm drain. We saw some pollution floating o top. We went to the island. It was small because the water level is high. We could see the water flowing back and forth across the tip of the island. After a little while the water level increased and it was flowing onto the island. There was panic and excitement in the childrens voices. The water receeded a few minutes later and all was well. Oceans and lakes are exciting places ot explore. "Susanne we saw a snake!!" "It went on the water!!" "Where did it go?" "It's gone." A little later we saw it swimming, heading back to the land where it began. The children were very loud and ran to the waters edge. The snak was now detouring to a quieter spot. It found a floating log to rest on. On tuesday we made tiny book. The children had to follow instructions on how to fold and cut the paper to make the book. Then they made a cover. Once they were finished they filled the book in with pictures and words. Today we made flip books. They wanted to make the person dance. T wanted his person's booty to shake. Some children didn't want to share their flip book. They went right into their pocket and stayed there.
We saw a tent at the lake so we stayed away. Susanne called Campus Police to make sure everything is safe.
We saw some beautiful flowers, and a heron. T saw the deer and we watched them for a long time. O and C visited. The blocks were every popular. It was a beautiful day. Deer!!! Shhhh We can see a family. There is a baby. Quiet. Don't scare them. We don't want them to run away and leave the baby behind. We saw another snake!!!
C found a birds wing. Yuck. It was a great day. The wind tried to blow away a hat or two. B found the ants were no longer in danger because the water had receded. |
