Once we have settled into our routines we will begin a research project. Part of the project will be on the blog and part in a booklet in class. The topic will be decided by the children. I never know what it will be but it is always a learning opportunity for everyone.

We might have our research topic, what do animals eat?
B and his Dad came to me with a question, how do the squirrels get nuts in the side of the tree? I replied, they have a helper. Can you guess?
Then B and H notice a walnut broken open and the husk was left on the ground. Who did this? Then ND found broken acorns under the oak tree. Who did this? Will we figure it out?

Today on our way to camp the T found berries on a bush. B also found the same berries on another bush. As we continued ND found a hole in a tree. Q saw there was a second hole. Who lives in there? Susanne asked. T an owl? ND a hawk? F an eagle? N a squirrel?
We also found the mystery squash/melon plant has been pulled out and the fruit was gone.

Sorry I have not kept you informed, our research topic has changed. The children wanted to learn about all types of animals. Q and B have inspired everyone with their conservatory made out of Lego. All the children have helped build and remodel the conservatory numerous times. We have made a natural history museum in our classroom. Each child has had a turn picking an animal for us to learn about. We are still learning.
I placed tiny toy animals in the boxes. A child will pick an animal and we will look up where in the world they live, what they eat and what their habitat is made up of. We know a habitat must have food, water, shelter and space. We have played games to help learn about habitats and migration. We have learned about all of these animals and I am about to change to new animals. I have also turned out research into a book.
