Orange shirt dayToday we are celebrating Orange Shirt Day. We are learning about a time when indigenous children were taken to residencial schools (sleep away school). They were not allowed to go home except for the summer (some never went home). The little girl in the photo above wore a new bright orange shirt for her first day of school. She was so excited. Her Grandmother had given her the shirt. She felt proud. When she arrived at school the teachers took her shirt, cut her hair and put her into a scratchy uniform. She was so sad. She never saw her orange shirt again. Today we remember her story. We visited the Tecumseh centre to look at some art and a canoe. We had a circle time in the field where we read a story " what fills your heart with happiness" and had a smudge. In the afternoon we coloured a orange shirt and talked about why every child matters. Why does your child matter? Why do you matter?

Grape StompIt's that time of year again. The harvest is in and we are prepared to stomp. It's a stick job but somebody has to show tje Brock students how it is done. A couple kinders decided to be cheerleaders. We had so much fun! 😊🍇 Written by S Robitaille
What a contrast in our weather. The environment really is the third teacher. Today's game of hide and seek was initiated by Koen. Children took turns counting and finding their friends. Mia and Henry engaged in their version, by hiding the ponies, for one another to find. This allowed the children to explore their environment. Our wagon, is full of surprises! Eric and Megan were discovering the forest with a new lens, and Griffin unearthed a twig that resembles a looking glass. All the children had a turn using the hand drill. I think this will be a favourite. We talked about having a "space bubble" around us when using tools. By creating a larger boundary when using tools, we are keeping our friends and ourselves safe. Our first day in the woods. We set up a tarp so we could stay a little dry. We did our land acknowledgent and read a story about giving thanks. We discussed safety rules and then went to play. After we read the story there was a question, what is dew? The children had some discussion and came up with the idea it is rain like. Eric volunteered to draw in our big book of ideas his version of dew. Everyone wanted to draw too. So we handed out a writing board and paper. We began to make a fort. Griffin, Eric, Sanzhar and Eduard were very helpful. Mia and Henry were building core strength by balancing on a log. Megan loves ponies, they were have a great adventure. They found an inch worm. There was a game of "what time is it mr.wolf" too. Written by S Robitaille
Our journey together is just beginning. We will be learning from each other. The forest and weather will be our guide. We will be prepared to learn, be kind and respectful of our camp and each other. Some of our adventures will be published here. Please keep our space off social media. Thank you.
