We went for a hike because it was very cold and windy. We found a fallen tree that was standing the day before. We went to the lake. Charlie drew a line in the snow so the others would know where to stand safely. ( ssomething Susanne usually does) We went down a few trails. We found some swampy puddles. Leah lost a boot to a puddle. Luckly it was easily dried so we could continue our day. It was a great day.

The lake is always full of things to explore. The water brings different items each day. We saw swans fly over us and the ducks and geese leave the island as we approached. There were mysterious bubbles and a huge piece of wood ( from a pirateship of course ). We began to make a new fort. They were so proud of their work I had to take a photo. It's amazing how one day there is ice in sheets to be looked through and the next day everything is melted. You never know what we will find. We added some sticks to the space in between two limbs of the tree. It made a ladder.

The lake was partially frozen. The children enjoy trying to break the ice with sticks. Our water rules are: no toes or mittens in the water and only tiny rocks are for throwing in the lake. They had a great time trying to figure out how to get the ice from the lake on to the shore. Lots of problem solving. We had two visitors from the senior room. They learned the rules quickly. Charlie took them under his wing and showed them the ropes. He was very kind and gentle showing them around. A proud day for Charlie. At camp we did the usually tree climbing and block building. We went to the lookout. It had been a while since we were there. It was a great day. So we did a thing. TVO came to see our forest school program. They walked out with us to camp and watched what we do. They asked us some questions but mostly just watched. We all had a few butterflies and sometimes nerves got the better of us. We all had fun. There are more photos to come. TVO will share a youtube link once the footage is ready to air. They will let us know when it will air.
Keep posted, I will add the link here. Im having technicle difficulties with the photos. The children made the best of a wet day. They played on a snow bank for 40 minutes. Once they were very wet we moved on. We stopped at the boulders and had a few games of make beleive happening. Then the boys were done. The girls were not. Patients is a vertue. Sometimes what is old becomes new again. The building sticks have become very popular. The children can follow the photo directions and build things. They have built tables, chairs, beds, vehicles and houses. They are so proud once they have completed the build.
Alice has given us a huge bag of toys and equipment. The science items are away for the moment but the animal characters are a hit. We added the doll house and we also build homes out of magnet tiles and blocks. The children are very good builders. January 18 & 19
The snow was beautiful. We went sledding and hiking. At every fork in the path there was a vote. They took turns leading the group. So much fun. This is what winter should always be like. January 12th. The snow was small but it still made a big impression. The children competed with the size of their snowballs. They made snowmen. They followed the path left behind from the rolling of the snow. We left for a bit and when we returned to continue building the snow had melted. The next best thing is to destroy what we built. The children built relationships by teaming up. They had to compremize and take turns. There is more to education than numbers and letters. Building friendships is equally important.
