Odd conversationsSo the conversation started with animals that lay eggs. Dinos, bugs, birds, snakes, sharks and worms. Then the question about whales. They are mammals like you. Do you lay eggs? No. Mammals have babies not eggs. Could you imagine W's mom laying an egg with his new sister inside? Lots of giggles. What about a rino? They are mammals too. There are only a few left, they are endangered. Hopefully they won't be extinct like the dinosaurs. T has a plan for a robot to catch the bad guys. Written by S Robitaille.
What's new? This afternoon Susanne changed the toys in the room. Took away some favorites to try something new. They are so excited that we stayed in to play. There was house building, t-rex's, robots and work stations. Giggle, giggle, giggle that's so funny! R is a bunny!
Written by D Robitaille. The very windy dayThe wind was crazy today. As we walked to find a safe place to play we had to keep changing our minds. We wanted a place where we could build a shelter from the rain if we needed it without blowing away. We ended up at the fire pit. Here the wind was less and we were sheltered a bit because of the buildings and being in a ravine. At the fire pit we took turns telling stories. We went in zyx order with teachers going last. Roxane tols and Indigenous story about a girl not listening to her Grandmother. She goes swimming alone and gets eaten by a giant fish. Grandmother rescues her. The boys love to play a game pretending to be Santa Claus and the "sleep" on the picnic table and Santa delivers their water bottles. The walk back the weather changed. There was a rainy mist and a cold wind blowing it in our faces. Brrrr. We made it. Weather can be the adventure.
Written by S Robitaille. Today was a day of discovery. They used tools, examined trees and soil and stumps. They found the remnants of vegetables we left last week. (Rabbits and squirrels don't enjoy cucumbers). St. Patrick's dayFunny story, we were talking about all the things happening in the next week. Helene's bday, st.patricks and Roxane's bday. The question of what is St.Patrick's day came up. I explained it is to celebrate Ireland with Leprechauns and pots of gold. I told them that the old Kinders would pretend to be Leprechauns and leave surprises for the seniors. They wanted to do it this year. I explained we couldn't because of the virus. So they asked if we could do it in our own room. I said I would be the Leprechaun. Monday came and the first surprise. No one realized it was me. They totally thought Leprechauns were real. The first day there were footprints leading up the cupboard to the sink in the washroom. The second day there was a glittery display on the stool by the sink. On the third day, St. Patrick's day there was footprints and a science experiment on every table. Also art supplies waiting on the floor. The science experiment was a puck of baking soda hiding gems inside. Once you drop vinegar on top it foams and exposes the gems.
After all the fun T came to me and said I was the best Leprechaun ever and he loved everything. He told another child I was the Leprechaun and they didn't believe him. There's no fooling T. Written by S Robitaille A goat?!St.Patricks's day was so exciting on it's own then we saw a goat. Yes a goat! At first we saw to young men walking a strange looking dog. Our thoughts were: weird dog? No, it's a goat. Goat? No, dog? No a goat! What? R and me were staring. I shouted hey why do you have a goat? It turns out it's a pet goat named Daisy. They recently moved to Welland and were visiting a friend on campus. They have three in total. Betty saw them leave. They put the goat in the backseat of their sedan.
Written by S Robitaille. Spring is in the airSpring is coming! We have seen it. We found some yellow blossoms at the pond inlet. The boys were so excited. We could see where other bulbs were coming up. What will they be? In the fall Glen a grounds maintenance worker let a few boys plant some bulbs by the Loewenburgur building. They guessed they would be red in colour. We will have to wait and see. We also saw that a beautiful tree had been cut down. It made us sad.
When we first arrived at the pond the noys stopped in their tracks because the pond was still frozen even though most of the snow has melted away. We looked for signs of life, frogs and fish. We didn't see any. With the warmer weather we will need to keep winter and spring clothing in our lockers. We need to be prepared for all weather. Written by S Robitaille. Who knew mittens could be so much fun. On our way to the pond the boys noticed a staircase and a ramp with a wall dividing them. As they ran up one side and down the other they noticed two holes (drainage pipes). Their hand could fit through. The friend on the other side would steal their mitten and throw it back over the wall. This quickly became a game of either keep away or toss the mitten. Depending on who was playing which game there was some controversy. They managed to settle any problems on their own in a kind way. If you look closely you can see the mitten/hand sticking out of the wall.
