We went for a hike on our first day with a wind chill. We went to the big bridge where we found the grasses are shrinking so we can see the lake and swamp. E noticed a line in the lake where the frozen part meets the waves. B, Z and R were excited to see the frozen swamp. Most often we can't see the water because the grass and cat tails are in the way. The discovery of frozen versus flowing water created many questions. When we reached the storm drain gate we found dirty water, frozen water with snow on it and fish swimming under everything. Wow! Oh yeah I almost forgot, we found poop. So many questions and guesses. Who made it? Why is it so dark? Is there fur in it? What animals are in the forest? Which ones eat meat? Christmas shapesAs part of our math skills we work with shapes. In December what is more fun than Christmas shapes. Trees, snowflakes, reindeer and Santa to name a few. Written by S Robitaille.
Fun with sarah GSarah filled in for Susanne on Monday and began a week long project of arts & crafts. Every afternoon there is a new part being made. The glitter fairy threw up all over the classroom on Wednesday. When everything goes home we would like to apologize for the glitter that will take over your homes. 😔
Here is the documentation Sarah created. Our adventureDuring the rain on monday we went on an adventure. We walked different routes and found new and interesting places. I think the boys like peeking into office windows. They found an office with a bunch of masks. "They are indigenous masks!" announced T. When we returned I cut out templates for the boys using their requested coloured paper. This is what they made. They are pretty awesome.
Written by S Robitaille I brought out five containers. Two cylinders, a square prism, a rectangular prism and a cylinder with one litre of water taller than the rest. I asked "Which one is the biggest?" Five boys said the tallest empty cylinder and one boy said the rectangular prism. "Will all of the water in this cylinder fit in there?" The boys said no. Susanne poured the water in and it fit. So we tried the next biggest and so on until the last. We found out that all the containers were the same size. Who knew? They shared sleds incase the other groups wanted to sled too. They made their teams and took turns, waiting patiently. Next they used the brick makers to build a fort. It takes patients and skill to build walls three bricks high. They did it! The boys had so much fun we did it again and again. Sledding three days in a row. On thursday Susanne brought out the tether line and the boys used their core muscles to balance across the line.
