Though Z has been away we were still able to connect. He would leave us messages and we would respond. We are so happy he is back now.
The boys have been exploring the world around them. Whether it's how the bikes work or the nature around us. There is never a dull moment. We have learned the difference between a frog and a toad. We have found Robin eggs and looked for their nests. So much to explore.

Every time we have soup and a sandwich for lunch we play a Fred Penner song.
🎶 Sandwiches are beautiful sandwiches are fine I eat sandwiches I eat them all the time. I eat them for my breakfast and I eat them for my lunch If I had a 100 sandwiches I'd eat them all at once. It's been a while since I posted an entry. Life gets busy at the end of the school year. There have been a lot of things behind the scenes getting done for graduation. I hope you all enjoy what Roxane and I have put together.
I am going to take this moment to say I love all the little men in my class this year. We have shared so many thoughts and ideas. We have shared memories of pre-covid and hope for the future. These boys have become stewards of the land and embraced the Indigenous teachings we have learned together. It have been a great year. Susanne 😊 We gave cameras to the boys. We asked them to find the colours of the rainbow in nature. They were more focused on the taking of a picture than the actual content in the picture. It will come. Here are the first round of photos. Once the snow clears we will try this again. We want to make a story about colour with each child's input.
Written by S Robitaille. Art in natureThe boys began digging up some soil and pressing it on the bark of a tree. I took their idea and brought out some natural clay. They each were given a few piece to place on the tree. They made different things but each took planning and skill.
Following InstructionsToday we tried painting a sunset. The boys were given their own supplies and could not begin until they were given each step. First was the horizon line. Second the water. Third the highest part of the sky. Fourth mixing the pink to create the sun down sky. Fifth the sun in the sky and water reflection. Sixth the shadow of land and grass. They listened well and still made it their own. Each one is unique. R chose to go abstract at the end. T wants to do another one with flowers next time. Written by S Robitaille. We tried it again. Before we began the freshly fallen snow was on their minds and they wanted to paint a snowy picture. We started off with great skills to follow instructions. Slowly their creative juices started flowing and the following along stopped. They regrouped to put on the ladybug. Maybe abstract is more their style?
Tools in the woodsWhat can you make with a peeler, chisel and a drill? The ideas are endless. Sometimes just the act of removing bark to see what is underneath is pleasing enough. Sometimes just removing the tiny bits on a branch can put a smile on your face. Can you make a pencil? A magic wand? A sword? Arrows? Written by S Robitaille.
Mystery creaturesWho is living in the swamp? We can hear many types of frogs. When we put our bucket in the water we only catch tine swimming creatures. Who are they? In previous years we found mosquito larvae. There was a debate, do we put it back in the water to grow up into a mosquito or pour it on the road to let it die? One side they are food for many creatures. The other side they bite us and make us itch (carry diseases). What to do? The group decided to let them live.
Written by S Robitaille. Hop scotch crazyHow big of a hop scotch can you draw? How challenging can you make it? How skilled are you? These Kinders are skilled. I made a giant hop scotch and they asked for more. It had eight parts and it wasn't enough. We added six more and they are coming up with more ideas. We will be adding more parts so keep posted for photos to follow. Written by S Robitaille. Here are the challenge takers beautiful hop scotches. April fools dayWe talked about the month changing and on thursday it would be April Fools day. I suggested everyone come late but in time for forest school. Kelly and Roxane would be wondering where everyone was. R told me he couldn't because Mom still has to work. I figured I would have to do a little trick. I showed them a container with a note saying brownies. I told them I made them special for the Kinders. R said he doesn't like brownies. I said he would love mine. I made them all by myself. I asked if they would want to have desert first? They circled the table and I opened the container. A collective sigh. Look brown 'E's! Haha April fools! They began to laugh. T was not impressed. He wanted real brownies. I reminded them I can't bring real brownies to childcare. Have a funny April 1st and a great Easter weekend. 🐰🐣💐
