We began our day on the tiny hill behind the playground. We took turns using the sled. The children tried making snowballs, it was not packing snow. We checked the lake. The water level was low. There were no geese or swans today. We went to the soccer field to see if there were any hills for sledding. Instead we played Mr.Wolf, had snowball fights and drew pictures in the snow. There was an attack on the teachers. Kids versus adults. I think the children won. Then again everyone needed a rest.

The children are enjoying learning about space. They used fine motor skills to cut out planets. They used shapes twice to make rockets, the second time gluing them down. They are using comic book templates to make a space story. They add key words from the word wall to tell the story. They will be making constellations and planets later in the week. The children have been building drones and aliens out of knex. Today we began at the lake. The island is very large because the water level is low. Every winter the hydro company uses the damns to lower the water level. This gives us a chance to explore a bigger area and sometimes to see different water life at the shore. The children love to toss small rocks into the lake. They love to pretend to fish and gather seaweed. We continued to camp. Part of the fort fell and Stefano fixed it. Some children drew pictures while others explored a cave ( a bush that has grown over leaving a hollow space in the centre). The children collected stones to use in the classroom. They used the stones as stars. They created constellations with Stefino.
Written by S Robitaille & B Werkmeister. We have been busy this week. We went to the track when the playground was too wet. We built rockets and robots out of blocks and shapes. The forest was wet with rain and hail. So we put up 2 tarps and did some whittling. Jan 13
It snowed!! We began our day by visitting the island. As we approached we could see the geese at the shore. As we got closer a bunch of the geese flew away . The others slowly swam away. Susanne walked the island leaving a line in the snow so we knew where to stop. We didn't want to get close to the edge or stuck in the mud. We could see footprints in the snow. There was a path in the slushy water. We are trying to figure out who left these tracks. The snow was perfect for snow angels. T, H and Q decided to cover their legs with snow. Before long everyone tried it. We continued on to the old camp. It looked very different in the snow. The children enjoyed shaking the branches to make the snow fall on their heads. How does the moon change shapes? This question has inspired everyone to look at the sky and see the shape. It also has inspired planet conversations. What do they look like? Where are they? What colour are they? So much learning is happening. Today was a damp day. The rain held off until the afternoon. We took a different route to camp because there was a skunk in the toddler playground. We have a new College student visitting for the next 8 weeks. He is very popular with the children. They all want his attention. We began with the land acknowledgement. The children fill in some of the most important parts. I asked if I had forgotten anything and ND said I forgot about the little girl. It took me a minute to realize who he ment, Phylis and her orange shirt. The children wanted to explore the area around camp. Luckly there is a lot of safe spaces around camp. Jan 6
We started the day at the lake. We found a burnt book with all it's pages blown about. Together we cleaned it up. A swan was at the island but floated away because we were there. Everyone wanted a cat tail. They could only have one if it was already broken. At camp we started with a game of hide and seek. We are getting better at hiding. We are also doing better at not giving away the other children's hiding spot. Jan 5th It's an interesting day when we start by seeing a squirrels breakfast table. Q was sitting on a log between 2 trees, H tried to join when the log broke. Luckily no one was hurt just a little surprised. There was some disappointment because everyone liked sitting on the log. So we made something new and fun, a see saw. We also learned how to play hide and seek. We are not great at the hide part sometimes. It just takes practise. We also found the fort had tumbled over. We rebuilt it but not in the same way. We ended the day with 2 see saws and a discovery of deer prints in camp. I don't think they believe me that the deer live behind camp. One day the deer will come closer and we will be able to see them.
