At camp we talked about hirbernation and migration. We can no longer hunt for salamanders or slugs. They need to hibernate for the winter. We talked about other creatures that hibernate. Then we talked about migration and who moves to warmer places. B says he is going to migrate with his family to florida soon. As we discussed why there are no butterflies because of the weather a bunch of tiny flying creature came out. They were small and quick. Were they butterflies, moths or magical fairies. They would fly around then disappear. It's a mystery. Written by S Robitaille.

We went on a hike friday. We started our day at the lake. The swans were at the island having a rest. We found more feathers.
Each child took a turn or two leading the group through the forest. We have to be mindful of poison ivy hiding on the trees. We were very careful. We stopped at a wall made of sticks. We had a drink and continued to the broken car. Next stop last years camp. We have visited here twice before, thistime it was very different. Everything the children ( past and present) had built was gone. Our square for group time, the fort, tree branches for climbing and the pretend campfire, gone. The children were angry. "They broke our camp!" "They are so rude!" "Who did this?" "They broke my campfire!" "They had a real fire!" The children wanted the forest to be safe. They want to know who and why someone did this. We decided to leave a note expressing our upset and to tell campus police. We went to the lake and saw many things. First there was a trail going into the brush tha just had to be explored. At the lake there were seeds to be blown, feathers to be found and hawks to be heard. We saw evidence of a possible beaver. This was just the beginning. We back tracked on the trail and stopped at the lookout to see a blue heron land at the lake. At we continued we found a giving tree. ( A Metis story ) There was a geocache inside a hollow log. Once we found the bridge we were looking for we found the answer to the question, who's feather? There were 2 swans floating in the lake.
On this foggy day we noticed snails on the top of some bushes. We had seen this before and wondered why the snails were on the tops of bushes. All along the road there were snails. Today we found out why or at least we think we know. They lay eggs on the branches.
We also noticed the dew adding sparkle to some spiderwebs. At camp the children used paint swatches as a guide for a colour scavenger hunt. After they found more webs at camp. Susanne had a bunch of thistles or burs on her pants. They were so tiny and prickly. The children have been noticing the footprints of animals and people as we head out to camp. I showed them the tracking guides. Now they use them while walking just in case there is a footprint. We also have a scat map ( poop ). We went to check out where the pumpkin used to be and found an area of exposed soil with scratches in it. We also noticed a hoof print. Then we saw a trail through the bush. We followed the trail for a bit and found more patches of soil and a large rock. The trail continued through the bush to far away places. For another day.
Written by S Robitaille. On this rainy day there was so much to discover. J tried to catch the rain in a cup. Susanne showed him where it was running off the tarp. Before you knew it everyone wanted a turn. J created a queue. The children made pretend soup, stew, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. So much fun with water.
