We went looking for colours. Susanne placed a bunch of paint chips upside down on a table. Each child picked a card and went searching for the colour. Some wereore difficult than others. There are so many shades of grey and brown it was hard to match.

We have been busy this week. We began an inquiry about our forest. Check out the " Are all forests the same?" page.
Thursday was a warm and rainy day. A great day for puddle jumping. And boy did they jump. On our walk to camp ES found a shrub full of snails. Who knew snails like to hang out in shrubs? At camp we made some bracellets with glow in the dark beads. ER thought the neon coloured markers were luminecent. So Susanne brought in some special beads for us. The children decorated the camp with items from the wagon to have a party. There was cake and singing. It was awesome. On friday we visited the lake. The children made a snowman shaped sea weed salad for the swans. It was too windy to go to camp so we played in the soccer field. Magnify glasses and fairy dolls were introduced today. They were a hit. It was a great day. Written by S Robitaille. We have had a busy week. We began our Jolly Phonics and Forest School. We did our 's' and 'a' sounds. We practised upper and lower case letters and shared some words with these sounds in the beginning, middle and end of words and names.
At forest school we learned all the rules we need to keep safe. We built walls to make a house. We then used dishes and nature items found to make dinner and snacks (pretend ofcourse). On our way out of the forest we left vegetables for the animals. We also found a snake that had an injury. We hope it will survive. There was a snail hanging around in a bush. The next day we found the snake had moved to the side of the road instead of the middle. We think it is trying to mend it's self. The snail was still hanging around and several others. We showed Roxane the Snapping Turtle nest with the empty eggs. The children did some drawing at camp. Tree climbing is a must and so is pretend cooking. Written by S Robitaille. We have had a very busy week especially since it was a short week. Everyone has settled in nicely. We all get along well. We have practised some rules in a fun way of course. We checked out where the camp is it was dismantled. We put most of it back. We are excited to go back with Roxane so we can climb trees and build a fort/den. Celebration of NationsThis weekend is the Celebration of Nations. It's an Indigenous event that welcomes everyone to participate. They want to share their culture, food and music. There are lots of things to see. In the past there was a Welland library display with lego for the children to use. They have returned, hopefully there are activities to do.
There is a teepee set up with a fire and some Metis people to answer questions. There is a stage with musicians performing throughout the day. Most things are free. There is food and drink to buy. It's a good way for your child to see that Indigenous people exist in real life not just stories and they look like you and me. I will be at the sunrise cerimony on Sunday. Check it out. https://www.celebrationofnations.ca/ Written by S Robitaille. Welcome to Kinder Forest School.
Roxane and I (Susanne) are very excited to welcome all the new children to the group. This blog is for you to share with your child. Please share any thoughts and ideas in the comment section. Susanne will try to respond quickly. Any thoughts or ideas can help bring new things to the classroom. If your child loves to paint but not pastels it would be good to know. If your child loves bugs or petrified of bugs we need to know. If your child is not to be in the blog you will see them in the documentation on the wall at the bottom of the Kinder stairs. Our day will begin shortly after 9am, we will be doing Jolly Phonics on Monday & Wednesday. On Tuesday we will be doing math activities. Thursday & Friday will be Forest School days. We will be leaving the centre at 9am. We will be dressed in rain boots and splash pants with long sleeve t-shirts. The children can change into short sleeve shirt when we return if it's hot. We will be doing Tick checks when we return and in the afternoon while putting on sunscreen. We will have a fun school year. We will learn a little about Indigenous people through land acknowledgements and story books as well as displays around campus. We will learn about nature, habitats and how to take care of them. We will learn about each other and how to work together. #1 rule is stick together. The new post are usually uploaded at the end of the week. I try to get at least one a week, sometimes two or three. This will be a great year. I can't wait to begin. Written by S Robitaille |
