We went on a big hike today. A few children missed out last week when we saw the car. So we went back again. We also went to a different part of the forest. We were looking for deer. We found the lookout over St.Catharines. M said he could see the hospital he was born in. L recognized a park. They all enjoyed the view. What does this tree look like to you? The children were telling Roxane and me what they will be for halloween. I was asked what I will be. There was surprise when I said I was not dressing up. What will you do then? How will you get candy? Since halloween is on their minds I thought we could do a halloween drawing. The best way is to use wet chalk on black paper. The finished drawings are posted at the bottom of the stairs.
Written by S Robitaille. Mr C has been busy building. Mr S, Mr M & Mr J were doing a building challenge with Mr L. They had to build a tower as tallas Susanne, a tower as wide as J and as tall as L with a tunnel. Susanne gave the boys some loose parts to see what they would build. I saw a few sandwiches held together with elastics.
Written by S Robitaille The children often want to explore the trails along the dirt road. Today we left the wagon behind and loaded up the backpacks. We began our journey at the first enterance by the Theal house. We found a bunch of trees we know the names of. Beech, red oak, maple and walnut. As we walked each child had a turn to lead the group. They also were able to choose which trails we took. We found a bridge that takes us off campus. We went to the limit and returned. We found the lake lookout. We continued to the entrance to the lake but chose to take a different route. We went through a pine forest and found a broken car. Now we have a million questions and ideas how the car got there. Mostly it crashed and got stuck. How do you think it got there? Leave your theory in the comments below. As we continued we found our camp. The children were excited to see it but didn't want to stop. "It looks bigger."-J We continued over logs, around puddles and over boulders. We stopped at a bog to guess who lives there when we noticed something looking back at us. A deer was on the other side. We were very quiet and watched for a long time. The deer was not afraid of us. It slowly walked away and we continued. Once we reached the dirt road we realized the deer had been following us. It walked out of the woods crossed the road and continued on the orher side with out us. It did have a sister following her. Fun times at camp. C was drawing and his friends followed. ES, S and J were pretending dinosaurs we coming. L was examining everything. ER and M were in the "party house" making food for their guests. EF joined in with everyone. She tried out all the fun ideas.
We have been finding snails on bushes for weeks. We wondered why? We noticed something different.
Welcome to the party house! It's where we sing "happy birthday" and other made up party songs.
The children decorate and work together to make it beautiful. This is the second time. Flash forward 15-20 years to the future party house. Who will be the host? Fun times. Written by S Robitaille. Nature is a beautiful thing. We began our day finding snails hiding in some bushes. This has become a regular event. Who knew snails like to climb bushes. Is it a certain type of bush or will any bush do? We found a variety of mushrooms today at camp. We did some research and found they were safe to eat. We will not eat them because they are for the animals only. On our way back we saw a Wooly Bear caterpillar. L saw it first as it tried to run across his path. Susanne picked it up so everyone could see and touch it. We let it go after to find it's home. The folklore on Wooly Bear's is the wider the orange/brown section the more snow we are to get this winter. Looks like we may be in for a lot of snow. Then J saw the most beautiful rainbow. We all stopped to see it. Even a passerby stopped to look. J thought it was normal to be in a cloud, like he had seen it like this a million times. Why was it not in an arc shape? Written by S Robitaille. If they are not using the straws and connectors they are building with block. We talk about making things stable. J mentioned today he wants to go to a place with coconuts and to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower. Susanne brought out a sky scrapper book with the Eiffel Tower inside. I wonder how many Eiffel Towers we will make?
Written by S Robitaille. The children were given straws and connectors. At first they made random things but mostly perpellars and called it an air plane. Then C began making squares. Susanne showed him how to turn it into a wall and add a roof. Now they can do it on their own. Written by S Robitaille. |
